Infectious Disease

Mass cytometry can be applied to immune monitoring of infectious disease such as sepsis. A small amount (2 to 3 mL) of blood is taken from the affected person and immune cells are isolated from whole blood. Through several metal-tagged antibodies, we can identify the alteration of immune cell population as well as the intracellular molecules such as cytokines. The highly heterogeneous state of cells can be revealed by mass cytometry.
